Weekends are vital opportunities for personal growth

“I’ve always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come.” – Michael Jordan

This quote is one of my all-time favorites. It captures the mindset I bring into my weekends, treating them not as downtime but as prime time for growth.

Weekends have become my personal launchpad. They are my space to think bigger, reset my vision, and put in the kind of focused work that builds the future version of myself — the one my business will need in five years.

Why Weekends Matter

Weekends are underrated when it comes to personal development. They offer something the weekday hustle often doesn’t: intentional space. Space to reflect, strategize, and build new skills without pressure or distractions.

Instead of treating weekends as a break from progress, I see them as a time for progress. Whether it’s learning something new, planning the week ahead, or diving into creative work, I use this time deliberately.

Here’s how I make the most of my weekends and how you can too.

Strategic Planning & Vision Work

Some weekends, I sit down with my journal or a whiteboard and map out short and long-term business goals. It’s not about being busy. It’s about being aligned. I review what worked, what didn’t, and where we are heading.

One Saturday, I spent a few hours digging into sales data from the previous quarter. That quiet reflection helped me spot untapped potential in a demographic we hadn’t focused on, which then became the centerpiece of a new campaign.

I also create vision boards and mind maps to explore new directions for the business. It helps me communicate ideas with clarity when Monday hits.

Continuous Learning

Learning doesn’t stop when you run a business. It just shifts. I dedicate weekend hours to books, podcasts, masterclasses, or deep research. This weekend, I’m diving into a book on leadership styles to better support my team.

For example, learning about transformational leadership completely changed how I engage with my team. More listening, more encouragement, and way more creativity unlocked.

Creativity and Problem Solving

Weekends are when I get my best ideas. Whether I’m taking a walk, painting, or enjoying some silence, stepping away from the usual routine sparks fresh thinking. I’ve solved more business problems during a nature walk than in a full day at my desk.

Networking & Relationship Building

I use weekends to connect with people I admire. Whether it’s attending a local seminar or grabbing coffee with someone interesting, these conversations often lead to collaborations, new ideas, and real momentum.

Last month, I joined a casual meetup with local founders, and it led to a joint venture that expanded our market reach.

Self-Care and Reflection

This part is non-negotiable. I’ve learned that pushing myself without rest leads to burnout, not brilliance. So I build in time to recharge. Reading, meditating, walking, journaling — whatever helps me feel grounded and inspired.

I also use Sundays to reflect on the past week, celebrate small wins, and realign. Even jotting down one thing I’m proud of creates a mindset shift going into Monday.

The Bottom Line: Invest in Your Future Self

The time I spend on weekends sharpening my skills, expanding my mind, and taking care of myself pays off in ways that compound over time. I don’t wait for the perfect moment to grow. I use what I’ve got. And what I’ve got is two days every week to invest in becoming the leader I’m aiming to be.

So ahead of this weekend, I’ll ask you this: who inspires you? What project have you been putting off that could move you forward? What’s one small thing you can do to grow?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to read more on the blog or get in touch here if you’d like to connect.

Let’s turn weekends into a superpower.
